Today's Meeting (30.09.10)

So from today's meeting we have decided upon the following:
IN REGARDS TO TEXTILE MIXER NIGHT:
- As Lorri's post already says, KAREN SIMPSON shall be playing an acoustic set for our textiles mixer night, as well as having a raffle, some pub quiz activity and perhaps even a few fun games. JUST TO CLARIFY THIS EVENT IS AT DROUTHIES ON OCTOBER 13th.
- For the pub quiz we should allocate teams to the tickets that we sell in order to promote mingling.
- Marion and Caitlin have been allocated raffle leaders so for all your raffle related queries go to them.
- Lorri and Eilidh are in charge of music for the night, go to them with any particular requests etc.

ITEMS FOR SELLING
- The badge backs are available from Carrie (£2.28 if you haven't already paid-for the card and badge backs)
- We are aiming to have five badges made each, by OCTOBER 31ST.
- In regards to the calendar, Caroline has done some research and for a CD-case size calendar, the cost would be under £1 for each of them.
-For next Wednesday, OCTOBER 6TH, have a 10x10cm image of some work that could be used for the calendar (florals for spring!)
-There is a box by the first studio door where you can put your bits for badges, and a box by Carrie's desk for completed badges.

Have a look on Cut out and keep for some inspiration if you are stuck!
Good luck making things ladies!

Dear Artist/Designer/Small businesses

Charity Craft Fair Saturday 13 November 2010

We are holding a Charity Craft Fair in our school on the above date and are inviting you to exhibit your work. As well as Art & Design Work produced by Local Artists and Designers there will be tables from various Charities. Speaking as a member of the Charities Committee in the school we are hoping to not only raise money for charity but also raise awareness of the various charities. The fair will be advertised on local radio and in the local press.

The Fair will open at 10am and close at 2pm. The cost is £20 if the work you are selling is not your main income and £40 if it is. This includes a table for you to display your work. The dimensions of the table are approximately 1 metre long by half a metre wide. All proceeds will go to charity. This table will need to be manned by yourself or a representative organised by you. Set up is during the hours of 9-10am on the morning of the fair. Work should be uplifted at the end of the fair. Car parking will be available in the school car park at the front of the school.

We are hoping that you are able to exhibit with us. If so, please complete the undernoted slip with a cheque payable to the High School of Dundee for my attention by Friday 29 October. If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me on 01382 202921.

Yours sincerely

FUNdraising (See what I did there, oh no...)

Hi one and all,
Thought I should post a recap of what we discussed during the meeting on Thursday.

- For New Designers we have set a base target for raising £100 for each person going to ND, hopefully it will be more, but this is just a figure to use to set some targets.

- So we have decided upon a date and venue for our FIRST EVER SURE TO BE SPECTACULAR TEXTILE MIXER NIGHT on Wednesday, October 13th at Drouthies, we'll smooth out details in next week's meeting regarding this. In the meantime, Lorri is collecting £2 for a 'business investment', which translates as money for the deposit at Drouthies and to purchase supplies for making things.

- We have avoided the idea of using the union as a fundraising tool instead utilizing our handy nature and with Lora's suggestion shall proceed to make some goods for a Christmas sale (or perhaps sooner?)

- Carrie has kindly looked into costs for Christmas cards, and currently they stand at 13p for card, 4.5p for envelopes and 25p for badge backs and £3 for chain for necklaces. Also for the potential of doing a valentines fundraiser Carrie also acquired the info from her lovely librarian that for 100 roses it's £14.

-There have been loads of great suggestions for things to do, most notably in my mind, Debbie's idea for scarves, Cathrine's tote bags and Sarah's calendar idea.

-Ashleigh is looking into the costs of printing, either for a class catalog (yearbook!?) or perhaps the calendar.

- We have lots of fantastic ideas and at the moment they are all floating about so this weekend I'll make up some suggestion boxes for fundraising and for general suggestions (even though my boxes certainly won't be as lurrrrvly as the one last year!)

SO FOR NEXT WEEK'S MEETING WHICH WILL HOPEFULLY BE AT THE SAME TIME IN ROOM 400 BRING BITS YOU HAVE LYING ABOUT SUCH AS: BUTTONS, BEADS, SCRAPS OF FABRIC, RIBBONS, FELT, WHATEVER (in andy's words) and SOME SEWING/GLUING/ADHESIVE SUPPLIES.

Great start ladies and let's make our year a year of textiles that NAEBODY WILL FORGET!

Eco footprint of fashion

Hey I know there must be somebody doing a dissertation thats about social or environmental sustainablility and textiles.

I was browsing the net and came accross the Pategonia site that shows you the journey that your garment has taken and tells you information about how sustainably manufactured it has been

Mill Shop Job

Hi ladies!

i know the hand in date has passed but if you are interested in this part-time job please email the link below!

The Fabric Mill at Halley Stevensons are looking to recruit someone with an
interest and working knowledge of fabrics. Ideally the candidate would be
able to suitably advise customers as to the appropriateness of particular
fabrics for the job they are doing. i.e. upholstery or curtains. Also useful
would be the ability to calculate fabric requirements from window
measurements given by the customer. Previous retail experience also
desirable. More importantly personality and excellent customer service
skills are essential as training can be provided in product knowledge and
fabric calculations. Hours are yet to be decided but are likely to be on
average 8 hours per week (all at weekends), perhaps more. There will also be
opportunity to cover any holidays and sickness. The starting rate of pay
will be in the region of £7.00/hr. If anyone wants to be considered then
email andy@waxedcotton.com . The closing date for applications is next
Friday 3rd September.
