Hey ladies!

Lizete, Kate, Caroline and myself went for our 'meeting' regarding the hiring of the union for a fundraising night at the end of last week and thought you should know what went down...or should I say what didn't go down! It was a bit of a disaster really, the guy we had arranged to meet did not show up, we hung around for 20 mins and had to practically hunt for the guy, no one knew where he was and altogether the staff weren't very helpful at all. We thought that it was a pretty unprofessional way to be behaving and did not really leave us with a very good impression of the way the union would treat us if we were to have a fundraising night there. After discussing it with a few of the girls, we are now not feeling very positively about having a fundraising event there. Or if we were to, not for it to be our main one as after speaking to some current 4th year students, it might not be worth our while in the long run.

According to the 4th years we spoke to, the union hands out a loan to cover the costs of advertising, for example the posters/leaflets etc. They then said for every £1,000 we make on the bar, the loan is cut down. So basically, unless we sell a lot of tickets (which is the hardest part) and make the bar a lot of money there is a chance we could break even or worse, make a loss. Therefore, a lot of money, time and effort is wasted. Which is obviously crappy when we're going to be busy and stressed with studio work.

I think we should sit and discuss the union as a fundraising venue as a group to get everyones opinions, we have however come up with a lot of other fun ways of raising cash. I have gone on for long enough here! (you know what I'm like!) hope you's are having a nice holiday! :D. KAT.

  1. What does everyone think about having a meeting regarding the Fundraising and Skillswap on the day we have to hand in our stuff for assessment?

I spoke to the receptionist and I have to speak to tina the deans secretary to ask to book...also will ask if we are allowed to take in food (and wine?) we all deserve a good pat on the back i think!

Also think we could all do with a textiletastic end of year night out to celebrate...can't see many people dissagreeing with that so get your suggestions up.

  2. I dont know what everyone else is thinking, but you know whats its like when people come into the studio selling tickets for their fundraising nights at the union, they usually either get ignored or only a few people go!!! I agree and think it would be quite hard to organise and time consuming aswell which might not be worth while in the long run if its not going to make us much profit in the end...I think a 'rag to riches' idea is really good, it doesnt involve too much organiseation, im sure everyone in the studion has clothes n accessories at home that they have never worn or never wear anymore that they could donate so it wouldnt involve us spending money in the first place!!! Therefore the money we would make would be all profit!!! x
